Where the Foundation Is Located

The Broad Art Foundation’s offices and archives opened in 1988 in a historic building in the Ocean Park section of Santa Monica. Originally a telephone switching station, the renovated 1927 building serves as the Foundation's administrative offices, archives and library, as well as five floors of private exhibition space. Los Angeles-based architect Frederick Fisher renovated the Foundation, retaining the facility’s open floor plan and 14- to 16-foot ceilings.

How to Visit the Foundation

Although the Foundation building is a private facility, the galleries are open by appointment to museum and art professionals, art scholars and other qualified individuals. Small university or museum-affiliated groups who have a specific interest in contemporary art may also view the collection. Organized graduate student groups, accompanied by a professor, are also considered for admittance.

All visitors must make arrangements well in advance of their prospective visit by contacting the Foundation and submitting a letter requesting a date and time to visit. For security purposes, visitors will be provided with an information sheet that must be completed and presented upon the day of the visit. Visitors may also be asked to present photo identification upon arrival.
